1736 - The United Methodist Church shares a common history and heritage with other Methodist and Wesleyan bodies. The lives and ministries of John Wesley (1703–1791) and of his brother, Charles (1707–1788), mark the origin of their common roots. 1798 - Rev. John Kobler brings Methodism to Ohio 1828 - On Christmas Day the First Methodist Protestant Church of Zanesville organized with 33 persons. 1830s - In the beginning of its life the church fellowship met in houses. In the mid 1830s a building was erected on South Street for the purpose of worship. 1850 - In late 1850 the church moved to Underwood Street and Elberon Avenue. 1871 - The church moved to Beaumont Street where it experienced a new vitality. 1909 - Flood damage from the Muskingum River caused the construction of a new building on West Main Street. 1939 - The Methodist Protestant Church, The Methodist Episcopal and The Methodist Episcopal Church South united to form the Methodist Church. At this time, The First Methodist Protestant Church became Coburn Methodist Church in honor of Reverend Coburn who was a former pastor who led the church out of decline and into vitality beginning in 1902. 1965 - The National Board of Global Ministries advised Coburn MC to move from West Main to the north end of Zanesville to minister to growth coming to the city. 1968 - Coburn UMC
was created when The Evangelical United Brethren Church and The Methodist Church
joined hands at the constituting General Conference in Dallas, Texas. 1976 - Ground breaking for a new church building takes place. 1977 - Construction is completed 1990s - The Wilson Center and office complex are completed
